Broad Peak is one of the tallest mountains in the world, standing at 8,047 meters (26,401 feet). It is located in the Karakoram Range in Pakistan’s Gilgit-Baltistan region, near the border with China. As the 12th highest peak on Earth, it is famous for its impressive size and difficult climbing routes. The mountain gets its name from its wide, snowy summit, which looks broad from far away. Climbers need strong skills, great endurance, and proper acclimatization to succeed. Broad Peak is very close to K2, the second-highest mountain in the world. Both peaks are part of the Gasherbrum massif, a group of six high mountains in the Karakoram Range. Many climbers see Broad Peak as good practice before attempting the even tougher K2.
